Shoe Mould

We got shoe mould (quarter-round) installed this week to go along all the baseboards in the house. It had been removed when the house was carpeted, so I had to purchase new pieces to paint/stain. I hate finish carpentry because of my lack of patience so I hired out the actual installation.

Below are pictures showing the installed moulding, its nice to have the gaps finally covered between the floors and the baseboards.

I also got all the white ceiling registers back up. Brian also striped and painted all of these, they look great, and with all layers of excess paint removed they now easily slide open and closed.
We have also finally starting to hang things on our walls. My parents gave us this antique mirror which fits perfectly above our buffet.
I bought Karina a picture of Fargo's city hall from the 1926, this is a year before our house was built and in all likelyhood the builder would have gone here to get the building permit.

In the 1960s it was unfortunately torn down in the urban renewal era and replaced with a terrible looking fire station.
Below is a picture of current city hall which replaced the one above. The picture is from google streetview because I couldn't find any picture of it online...which isn't surprising since it would be hard to expect anyone to actually put forth the effort of taking and posting a picture of such an ugly "civic" structure.

Back Entry

We decided it was finally time to paint the back entry. The walls and ceiling were painted a cream.

We painted the ceiling white and used the leftover brown paint from the baby's room to paint the walls.

I also probably broke an old house cardinal rule and decided to paint the knotty pine white. I'm not a big fan of pine and this back entry lacks much natural light, so we thought a white would help brighten up the area.

Registers and Vents

I got the heat registers and cold air return vents installed this weekend. Like everything else they were covered in multiple layers of paint. My buddy Brian brought these to his shop and sandblastered them and repainted them. They look brand new, turned out great.

Brian helped me pull the french doors for the sun room. They've been collected dust for 50 years in the garage attic. Besides the dirt and peeling paint they are in great shape, all the hardware is in place and no broken panes of glass.

Sun room - wallpaper

Our main floor walls are finally finished! This weekend my parents came to help us wallpaper the sun room. This room has been sitting in limbo for a year and half. We removed the wallpaper the first weekend we bought the house and since then we patched the plaster and a couple months ago we sized the walls.

Here's the original wallpaper.

Here's what the walls looked like underneath, a faux type finish.

The prepped walls.

First corner. The walls aren't plumb, level, or square, which makes wallpapering a lot of fun.

The last corner, these two corners took forever trying to get them to fit and match up. Luckily my parents know all the tricks.

The finished product!

Next on the list is the french doors and the radiators.

Dining Room Wallpaper

With a ton of help from Karina's dad we finally got the dining room wallpapered. We originally thought this would have been done in the spring of 2009, then we thought last fall we would get it hung, but like everything else there were a lot of steps that had to be completed beforehand.

Here's the dining room as it was when we bought the house. Since this point we pulled the old wallpaper down, pulled up the carpet and backing stuck to the floor, patched the walls, fixed the ceiling after the bathroom pipes were replaced, painted the ceiling, stipped three layers of paint from the all the trim, sanded the trim, stained the trim, and then hired out to have floors refinished.

Here's how the room looked after the wallpaper was removed. We looked at these walls for more than a year, it was very exciting to finally get these ghetto looking walls papered.

First corner finished!
