Wood Treatment

Sanding is complete and the final step before paint/stain is treating the wood with a 1:1 mixture of linseed oil and turpentine. The hope is by conditioning the wood that has dried out over the years will result in longer paint life by preventing the wood from sucking out the paint and putty oils causing premature failure.  The stuff also smells great!

Before treatment

Swedish stuff I buy from tarsmell.com

Reglazing

One window left to reglaze.

Brick Repointing

Back Yard - Long Term Plans

Here's the long-term plans for our backyard.  The very back yard would be for a garden, but we want to keep it more formal and organized.  This will be a multi-year project starting first with installing the pavers and garden beds.  Picket fence and a garden shed will be later than sooner.

The area between the house and garage has an all too small patio that one day I want to expand with a new patio and pergola.  I would like a six-post pergola and want to use salvaged tapered columns which finding could be difficult.

Desk

We now have the desk that matches the dining room table and buffet. These three pieces have been part of the house for 60+ years.

Windows - Living Room

Here's the before. These will all be stripped and stained.

The upper sashes were all painted shut.

The interior scraping is complete and painting staining has started.

The exterior side of the sashes are primed and painted to match outside trim color.

Step 1. Oil based primer. I use oil based paint on any surface in contact with the sash. Latex against latex will stick and prevent smooth operation of sash.

Step 1a. Interior side of jamb gets stained.

Step 2 Painting & Staining Completed
